The Full Frame Theater makes its home in the old Power Plant in the center of American Tobacco Campus.  The theater seats about 100 with year round programming, screenings and classes.

This is home to the annual Full Frame Fest in April of each year.  The 19th annual Full Frame Fest will take place April 7-10, 2016.  Each Spring the Full Frame Fest welcomes filmmakers and film lovers from around the world to historic downtown Durham, North Carolina for a four-day morning-to-midnight array of over 100 films, as well as discussions, panels, and Southern hospitality.

The encore screening of MAVIS! is part of Full Frame’s Third Friday Film Series, a program of the Full Frame Road Show presented by PNC. Only a teenager when her family, the Staple Stingers, started performing, Mavis Staples has an incredibly soulful voice.  Led by their father, “Pops,” Mavis and her siblings moved audiences with their gospel music.  They also helped inspire the civil rights movement through song.

From the delta-inflected gospel sound she helped pioneer in the 1950s, to the “message songs” of the civil rights era marching beside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to massive hits such as “I’ll Take You There” in
the soul-filled Stax era, Mavis Staples is a legend.  Featuring intimate stories and a collection of breathtaking performances, both past and present, MAVIS! charts the singer’s incredible career and makes space for the music to speak for itself. We witness Mavis’s deep ties to family; though she now performs on her own, her sister Yvonne still travels with her wherever she goes.

Artists like Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan express their gratefulness to Mavis for her incredible influence on both music and civil rights.  Collaborator Jeff Tweedy reveals the inspiration he has found in her amazing work. After sixty years of performing, this pioneering vocalist is making the most vital music of her career, and we need her message of equality now more than ever.
