The Scrap Exchange in Durham Expands

The Scrap Exchange in Durham is a creative reuse center and the perfect place to create art.  This nonprofit organization just celebrated their 25th anniversary.  Their mission is to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and community through the reuse of materials.

The Scrap Exchange allows you to shop for unusual supplies and materials that are perfect for your next creative project.

They teach classes in skills such as sewing, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, and custom framing.

To support their environmentally friendly cause, this nonprofit does accept donations.

For a small fee of $5, visitors can use their “Make N Take Room” which allows for an hour and a half of self-directed activity using the materials in the space and permits you to take home what you make.

Once a time is scheduled to become familiar with their “Design Center,” trained visitors can use sewing machines, a die cut machine, a button maker, and a multi-lingual reference library with books on art and craft topics.

For those wanting to drop in, please call their retail store at (919) 688-6960 to confirm availability before arriving.
